Tesla brought the Cybercab to the annual National Federation of the Blind (NFB) convention in Austin, Texas (July 3–8, 2026) to demonstrate accessibility features for blind or low-vision passengers: Braille on physical controls, space for service animals, and wheelchair-transfer-height seating.
The official Tesla Robotaxi (@robotaxi) account posted the walkthrough on July 6, 2026. Elon Musk reposted on X: «Making sure Cybercab meets the needs of the blind.»
What Tesla showed
- Braille on physical controls: interior door releases and the emergency stop / hazard button.
- Interior space for service animals and assistive devices (canes, guide dogs).
- Seats at wheelchair height for easier transfers.
- No steering wheel or pedals: the Cybercab is a two-seat robotaxi built for unsupervised autonomous driving.
- Per event reports, the vehicle also uses exterior microphones and speakers to announce arrival and accept voice commands.
The Austin event
The NFB convention drew thousands of attendees to the JW Marriott Austin. Participants with white canes and service dogs could board the Cybercab, feel Braille markings, and try the cabin without relying on a human driver, per Teslarati.
For Tesla, Robotaxi promises greater travel independence for millions of Americans with visual disabilities who today depend on paratransit, hailed rides, or help from others.
Teslarios is not affiliated with Tesla, Inc. Unsupervised autonomous driving remains limited to specific geofenced areas; accessibility demos at conventions do not mean immediate commercial rollout for blind riders in every city.
