After years of waiting and regulatory work, official Tesla Insurance has finally landed in Florida in December 2025. The Sunshine State becomes the 13th state to get the service — welcome news for EV owners facing high insurance costs in the region.
Unlike traditional insurers, Tesla Insurance does not use factors such as age or credit history. Instead it uses Safety Score 2.2, a system that analyzes your driving in real time to set your monthly premium.
What’s new in Safety Score 2.2?
With the Florida launch, Tesla rolled out its most refined safety software yet. Based on community feedback, Safety Score 2.2 includes important changes:
- Forward-collision alerts removed from scoring: Because of false-positive complaints, these alerts no longer hurt your score.
- Night driving adjusted: Measurement of driving between 10:00 PM and 4:00 AM has been optimized.
- Speeding still tracked: Strict monitoring if you exceed 85 mph.
- Braking and turns: Smooth steering matters; avoid hard braking and aggressive turns to pay less.
