Robotaxi now in Tampa and Orlando: Tesla adds two Florida cities

How to book and which vehicle runs

Per Not a Tesla App and Teslarati, residents can open the Robotaxi app (iOS or Android) and request a fully autonomous Model Y—no driver and no safety monitor in the front seat, matching Miami. The fleet remains retrofitted Model Ys; the dedicated Cybercab is still in engineering tests without a steering wheel or pedals.

Geofenced zones at launch

Both cities start with bounded perimeters that Tesla typically expands over time:

• Orlando: roughly 12–15 square miles in eastern and southeastern Orlando (Conway, Lee Vista), bounded south by the Beachline Expressway (FL-528) and east by the Central Florida GreeneWay (SR-417), per NATA.
• Tampa: about 4–5 square miles in the core: West Tampa, Tampa Heights, Hyde Park, and downtown, along the Hillsborough River and US-41 Business corridor.

Teslarati describes somewhat larger initial Orlando polygons (metro tourism zones), but NATA’s figures align with the first geofences visible in the app.

Context: map growth, small fleet

The announcement landed one day before Tesla’s Q2 2026 earnings call (July 22)—a timeline similar to Dallas and Houston ahead of Q1, per TechCrunch. Electrek notes that despite new city names on the map, Austin’s unsupervised fleet—the flagship market with a full year of operation and complete metro coverage since June—still sits around 17 active cars, below the ~25 peak in April. Lighting up Orlando and Tampa is cheap operationally (geofence + tweet); scaling vehicles in Austin remains the bottleneck Musk has tied to safety validation.
