Tesla AI chief confirms Grok FSD integration: “Working on it”

Ashok Elluswamy replied “Working on it” to an owner asking to guide FSD by voice with Grok. Musk pointed to ~3 months in June; the integration would link the assistant to the planning layer.

On July 8, 2026, Tesla AI software VP Ashok Elluswamy replied on X “Working on it” to @ChrissGPT, who asked to talk to the car to specify driveways or exact houses while FSD drives—just as you would with a human chauffeur.

From infotainment assistant to driving layer

Grok reached Teslas in North America in 2025, expanded to Europe in 2026, and with the Spring Update added “Hey Grok,” location reminders, and natural-language navigation. Until now, though, it does not control how FSD drives: braking, lane changes, and parking remain in the autonomous loop (Teslarati).

What Elluswamy confirmed is the next step: Grok passing contextual instructions into FSD’s planning layer—e.g. “take a left at the stop sign” or “park away from other cars at Costco.”

Timeline: Musk’s promise

On June 23, 2026, Elon Musk replied on X to an owner requesting Grok voice commands for FSD: “This functionality will be there in about 3 months or so” (Tesla Oracle). That points to a potential September 2026 rollout. Teslarati notes Musk had confirmed the idea earlier in the year.

Safety and hardware hurdles

In January 2026, Elluswamy warned at a conference that integration opens “an entire area of testing”: “you shouldn’t be able to tell the car to crash, and it shouldn’t crash” (Wheel Front). Bridging conversational intent and physical vehicle actions requires new validation layers.

Most HW3 cars with Intel infotainment do not run Grok today. Even with v14 Lite improving FSD on HW3, integrated voice may arrive later or need an infotainment upgrade bundled with the FSD computer (Not a Tesla App).

Impact on the last stretch of a trip

FSD v14.1 added parking at destination, but it remains limited on residential streets. Being able to verbally guide the car to an exact driveway—and have it remember home or office habits—would be a major usability jump in neighborhoods, where today you sometimes only force a turn with the blinker.

Teslarios is not affiliated with Tesla, Inc. Grok remains in beta; availability and features vary by region and hardware.
